Updates

The site is in beta: content and display may still change. Here is what changed, from the newest version to the oldest.

0.17.0 beta - 2018 municipal elections: Wallonia and Brussels completed

  • 2018 municipal elections: Wallonia is now complete (253 municipalities), with registered voters, ballots cast and blank and void votes taken from the SPW's official results website (unofficial results until their validation, as of 15/10/2018). The six single-list municipalities and La Bruyère are included again; Wavre follows the recount of 06/11/2018 and Neufchâteau the rerun election of 16/06/2019. Brussels 2018: totals per municipality (registered voters, ballots, blank votes, valid votes) for the 19 municipalities; electronic voting, so no void ballots; 2018 lists and elected members not available, the "Leading list" map stays hatched for Brussels.

0.16.1 beta - Official sources for Brussels municipalities

  • Local executive, Brussels-Capital Region: 9 mayoral offices and 13 municipal majorities are now based on the municipalities' official websites, consulted on 25/10/2026, instead of Wikipedia or the press. Wikipedia or BX1 are still cited as a supplement for the list and the party. Schaerbeek: Audrey Henry is shown as mayor unable to serve, according to the municipality's page of public office-holders, and Martin de Brabant as acting mayor. Molenbeek-Saint-Jean: the majority shown is corrected to PS - Vooruit / PTB - PVDA / Molenbeek Autrement. Berchem-Sainte-Agathe keeps its secondary source for now: the municipal website was unavailable.

0.16.0 beta - Customisable municipality card

  • Municipality pages: new "Customise the card" option. Tick the blocks to include (population, share of foreign nationals, recorded offences, rate per 1,000 inhabitants, change, rank, mayor), check the preview, then download. The municipality name, notes, sources of the kept blocks and the date always stay on the card. All cards now show the address of the municipality's page on ouvamabelgique.be.
  • Brussels municipality cards: the mayor's source now clearly names the municipality's official website or, failing that, the secondary source used (Wikipedia, press).

0.15.2 beta - Party colour on the elections map

  • Federal, regional and European elections map: the municipality panel now shows a dot in the party's colour, the same as on the map and in the legend, next to the leading list.

0.15.1 beta - Clearer maps

  • Maps on the Map and Elections pages: the "View the page of…" button now shows the full municipality name, even a long one, and the details on the federal, regional and European elections map are translated into Dutch and English.

0.15.0 beta - New Elections page

  • Elections: a new page shows the official results of the federal, regional and European elections of 2014, 2019 and 2024, and of the municipal elections of 2018 and 2024: votes, seats and turnout, for Belgium and for each municipality.
  • Municipal elections: the page also shows the elected members of each municipality and the number of registered foreign voters in 2024. Parties are presented neutrally, with no ranking or score.
  • Municipality pages: an Elections block sums up the latest municipal election and links to the page.
  • Still missing: Brussels in 2018, turnout in Wallonia in 2018, a few Walloon municipalities whose official 2018 file is incomplete, and the German-speaking municipalities. Each figure links to its official source, with its date.
  • Menu and footer: Elections appears under Data.

0.14.0 beta - Court follow-ups

  • Events: trials, judgments and appeals are now tracked separately, as steps of the original incident. They never count in the totals and do not appear on the map.
  • New Trials page: it brings together trials whose incident is not in the register. No names are published, and we say « defendant » until the judgment is delivered.
  • Register corrected: 7 trial articles that had been counted as events until now have been moved to the court follow-ups.

0.13.1 beta - Cleaner menu

  • Menu: the Rankings submenu is now as wide as its text, with equal spacing all around. The text no longer overflows.
  • Menus: on hover, a link's background follows the panel's rounded corners, in the Rankings submenu and in the Data menu.
  • Menu and footer: the Data sections are listed in alphabetical order, in each language.

0.13.0 beta - New Femicides page

  • Femicides: a new page sums up what we know. There is no official femicide figure in Belgium yet: a 2023 law provides for one, and the first report is expected at the end of 2026. In the meantime, the page shows deaths of women by assault from 2011 to 2023 (Statbel, via Eurostat) and, separately, the count kept by the association Stop Féminicide since 2017. The page contains no ranking, no map by municipality and no victim names.
  • Menu: the Municipalities table can now be reached from the menu, under Rankings.
  • Footer: it shows all sections of the site, grouped as in the menu.
  • Methodology: a section explains the sources on femicides and their limits.

0.12.0 beta - New Belgium in Europe page

  • Belgium in Europe: a new page compares Belgium with France, the Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg, and with the EU average when there is one. It covers crime, asylum, foreign population and house prices. These are comparisons, not rankings.
  • Asylum, Foreign population and Municipalities table: a European comparison is added at the bottom of the page (for the Municipalities table, on house prices), with a link to the new page.
  • Methodology: a passage explains how to read the European comparison of crime. Eurostat only counts completed homicides, whereas BIPOL figures also count attempts.
  • The figures come from Eurostat and the OECD. They keep Eurostat's flags (estimated, provisional…), with the update date and a link to each source.

0.11.3 beta - Foreign population: summary and easier map

  • Foreign population: a banner at the top of the page gives the figures for Belgium on 1 January 2026 (Statbel): total population, origin and nationality groups of non-Belgians.
  • Foreign population: on a computer, the selected municipality's card now appears to the right of the map.
  • Foreign population: + and − buttons let you zoom in and out of the map.

0.11.2 beta - Easier-to-read dark mode

  • Dark mode: the selected buttons on First names (Girls, Boys, Both sexes) are now easy to read.
  • Dark mode: the chart lines on Asylum and First names are more visible on a dark background.
  • First names: the Top 10 / Top 20 menu is translated into Dutch.

0.11.1 beta - More precise first name search

  • First names: the search shows the name's place in the ranking for the chosen year and area.
  • First names: new Sex filter with a "Both sexes" option. The rank is then recalculated, and given as a range when Statbel does not publish small numbers.

0.11.0 beta - New Asylum page

  • Asylum: a new page shows asylum applications, decisions, the protection rate, unaccompanied minors and age tests. All figures come from the official publications of the CGRS, the Immigration Office, Fedasil, the Guardianship Service and Eurostat, with a link to each source.

0.10.3 beta - Events map bubbles

  • Events: the bubble that opens when you hover or tap a dot now appears just above the circle, without hiding it.

0.10.2 beta - Grouped events map

  • Events: one dot per municipality, showing the number of events and a colour per category. Tapping or hovering opens the list of that municipality's events, with a link to each.
  • Events: every event now has a dot on the map, placed at the centre of the municipality (Statbel).
  • Events: the total now states the number of distinct sources and how many are shared between two events.

0.10.1 beta - Easier-to-read methodology

  • Methodology: site pages are named rather than shown as addresses, and technical terms are replaced with plain words.
  • Simpler wording: search box, Rankings and Compare introductions, Events map legend, and an up-to-date description of the shareable card.
  • Municipalities table: the Offences per 1,000 inhabitants column colours the 20 highest and 20 lowest rates among the municipalities shown (the top and bottom quarter if fewer than 40).
  • Municipalities table: coloured rates also show their place in the ranking (for example #3 or #5 lowest), whatever the table sort.

0.10.0 beta - Foreign population and first names

  • New Foreign population page: municipalities map since 1992, EU27 and non-EU27, main nationalities, origin and country of birth (Statbel).
  • Foreign population: census figures since 1890 (Belgium) and 1947 (regions), with their sources, on a chart separate from the annual series since 1992.
  • New First names page: official newborn rankings since 1995, trend of a name and map by municipality (Statbel).
  • Foreign population: removed an incorrect note under the census chart, whose vertical axis does start at 0.
  • Rankings: the rate per 1,000 inhabitants is shown by default, with a note on its limits (tourist or city-centre municipalities).
  • Methodology: the « What this site does not do » list becomes a short « How we work » text.
  • Simpler menu: Map, Rankings, Compare, Events and Data. Methodology, Data structure and Municipalities table move to the footer, and Rankings links to the municipalities table.

  • Public opening of the site.
  • A nod to Où va ma France in the footer and on the About page, which states that the site is independent.
  • New name, Où va ma Belgique, and new logo (tab icon and header).
  • This updates page and the beta label in the header.
  • Footer with X, Facebook and contact, and an About and legal notice page.
  • Anonymous visit statistics, without cookies, hosted on our own server.
  • Methodology: only verified figures from the reference bulletin are quoted.
  • Events: a source covering two cases is flagged and counted only once.
  • No more brief error screen when changing pages after a site update.

  • The site is available in French, Dutch and English, with official municipality names.
